Royal Mail strikes called off

The Royal Mail have called off the strikes in the run-up until Christmas, so delivery times will be back to normal in the next few days.

Wednesday 21 October 2009

Royal Mail strike update

Negotiations between Royal Mail and the CWU have proved to be non conclusive with the two day strikes going ahead on 22nd and 23rd October.
There is also talk of two further strikes next week, which are, as yet, unconfirmed.

Fear not, we will still be posting while the strikes are on. As always, our standard postage is free (worldwide is free for orders over £30).
We have decided to not use a courier due to the cost and delay in delivery (up to 5 days), but
during the strikes we will be reducing the cost of Special Delivery to £3.50, offering you a £2.00 saving on the normal cost.

Royal Mail has advised that they will prioritise the delivery of Special Delivery items on strikes days, though they cannot guarantee the normal next day delivery normally offered for this service.

If you are concerned about the delivery of your order, but do not require it urgently, we also offer Recorded Delivery for just £1. Items sent through this service may be affected by the same time delays are standard mail, but you will be provided with a tracking number so you can see where on your journey you item/s are.

Friday 16 October 2009

Postal Strikes

Unfortunately Royal Mail workers have taken the unwelcome decision to strike next week.

On Thursday 22nd October drivers and mail center staff are due to walk out for 24 hours, then 78,000 delivery workers will strike on Friday 23rd October.

We will continue to post out orders as normal and hopefully the strikes shouldn't have too much of an impact, though orders may be delayed by up to a week.
Royal Mail has advised that items sent by Special Delivery will still continue to be delivered. This service is available for £5.50 and your order is guaranteed to reach you by 1pm the following day.

If you need something urgently, please order as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Kalandra Jane handmade fascinators

I had some amazing fascinators arrive in the post this morning, all handmade by the lovely and talented Kalandra Jane.

They are the perfect accessory if you are off to Ascot/a wedding/prom/burlesque event or retro festival such as Goodwood Revival.
Forget hats (hat hair, hot head...), this is the head wear to be seen in. Cool, stylish and won't ruin your hair style!

I currently have 9 different designs of the mini cocktail hat. They are all gorgeous and beautifully made from Kally's own designs.

I have also got a black velvet mini top and a some sequin heart shaped nipple tassles in pink or red for any budding burlesque dancers!

I have some designs up on the site to buy now-my sister very kindly modeled them for me, but had an exam to revise for, so the rest will be added tomorrow when she has finished!

Two new ranges-Reconstructed and Lost and Found

We have been working very hard at Ji Ji Kiki and I am very excited to announce that I am launching not one, but two new ranges!

One is called 'Reconstructed' and the other 'Lost and Found'. Click on the titles to be taken to exclusive links and be the first to see the new pieces!

'Reconstructed' is a range of unique, one off pieces handmade using antique and vintage jewellery, semi precious stones and Swavroski crystals.

I have been busy sourcing jewellery items that are broken, unloved and discarded so I can recreate them into something new and unique.

Every piece is different and there is only ever one of each item, so you can be sure you are getting something really special

'Lost and Found'. is a collection of vintage and retro bits and pieces that I have found on my travels whilst searching for items to use in the Reconstructed jewellery.

I couldn't bear to leave them behind, so have created a special category for these unloved items so that you can give them a new home!

At the moment you will just find necklaces in Lost and Found but it will soon include earrings, bags, kitchen and homeware items.

Unfortunately I dropped my camera halfway through taking the pictures and broken the lens-as soon as I have it mended, I will get everything else photographed and up for sale!

Competition to win a piece of jewellery!

As posted below, I have recently started up a blog called Scavenger Bird featuring handmade treasures I have found on my travels around the web.

I've been thinking that while it's nice to read about and look at the things I feature, it would be lovely to run competitions to win some of these beautiful pieces.

So...I have decided to hold (ir)regular competitions. Yay!

I have some gorgeous pieces up for grabs over the next few months, but thought I would start by running a competition to win a piece of jewellery from Ji Ji Kiki.

All of have to do to enter is go to the site and pick the piece of jewellery that you would like to win and then put a comment, stating what the piece is, on the Scavenger Bird blog. Simples! I will also send the lucky winner some extra surprises :)

Please see the blog for other ways to get extra entries.

The competition is open to everyone worldwide and the closing date is Friday 8th May (next week). The winner will be announced on Saturday 9th May, so check back then to see if you've won!

Good luck everybody. x

I have just started up a personal blog 'Scavenger Bird' where I will feature "A random selection of treasures discovered on my way (mostly) around the internet."

I will be featuring independant shops and designers that have caught my eye whilst roaming the internet, and running competitions to win prizes donated for some of those featured.

You can follow me through BlogLovin' to be kept up to date with what's happening.
I will try to post new findings daily, so keep checking back.

Newsletter 3rd April 2009

Hello!

There's lots of news this week, so I have broken it down into sections:

1. Help raise money for the Joshua Foundation
2. Competition to win Ji Ji Kiki jewellery at Wishwishwish.net
3. March winner of £20 voucher to spend at Ji Ji Kiki
4. Handmade jewellery now available at DaWanda
5. Ji Ji Kiki now available at /Ik'sentrik in Somerset, UK
6. Sneek preview of this weeks new goodies!

1.
Ji Ji Kiki is very proud to be helping raise money for Sarah, who is fundraising for the very worthwhile Joshua Foundation, which provides holidays and experiences for children diagnosed with terminal cancer and their families.

In 2002, the charity launched a new fundraising project, the  ‘Oz experience’, which allows 16-18 year olds the opportunity to travel to Australia to undertake conservation work for CVA (Conservation Volunteers Australia),in return for raising sponsorship in the UK.Sarah plans to stay in Australia for two and half weeks and needs to raise a minimum of £2600, half of which goes directly to The Joshua Foundation, the other half will pay for her travel expenses and support her conservation work whilst she is out there.

In order to raise these funds, Sarah is holding a ‘Girly Pamper Day’, on 7th April, at which she is holding a raffle and auction-I have donated a number of Ji Ji Kiki items for her to auction off.

To also coincide with this event, from Monday 6th April to Sunday 12th April, I will be donating 10% of  profits from Ji Ji Kiki to help Sarah reach her target.

If you would like to give a donation direct to Sarah to help her reach her target, please visit her Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.co.uk/tjf, or if you were putting off a Ji Ji Kiki purchase, next week would be a great time to buy as you would be helping Sarah out as well as getting a nice gift for yourself :)

2. The lovely Carrie, author of blog Wishwishwish has written a blog entry about Ji Ji Kiki complete with some gorgeous photographs of some of my handmade vintage jewellery pieces.

She is running a competition for 3 (yes 3!) lucky readers to win some of the items featured.  To be in with a chance, all you have to do is just leave a comment on the entry!  Simples as Alexander the Meerkat would say.

3. As you may have seen we are currently running a monthly draw to win £20 of Ji Ji Kiki vouchers when you sign up to the newsletter.

We have put everyone on the mailing list into our metaphorical hat and the winner is (drum roll please)....

Rachael P.

Well done, and your £20 voucher is winging it's way through the stratosphere to your inbox!
Don't worry if you didn't win this time as we will be holding another draw at the end of April.

4. I am slowly adding some of my handmade jewellery to my new Dawanda store. More items will be added when I get a spare minute!

5.  Some very exciting news is that you can now buy a selection of my kitsch jewellery at /Ik'sentrik a very cool little shop in Frome, Somerset.
Perfect for those of you who, like me, live in The West Country.

6.  And last but not least, the photographs scattered thoughout this newsletter are some of the new pieces I have made this week.  This is a sneek preview of what I will be adding to the website over the next couple of days, so make sure you check the website this weekend to get your hands on them before someone else does!

And that is it for this newsletter.  I'm sorry that's it's such a long one-hopefully there will have been something in it of interest :)

Ji Ji Kiki now available at /Ik'sentrik!

I am very excited to announce that you can now purchase Ji Ji Kiki jewellery at /Ik'sentrik, a really cool little shop in Frome, Somerset.

Selling everything from Smokin' Labbits (I want!), original artwork, Ugly Dolls and enough Studio Ghibli to keep even the most advid collector happy.

Billed as ‘Purveyors of Culture for the Misinformed and Maladjusted’, the Stony Street business has made a name for itself through it’s varied and intriguing products from urban vinyl art toys to watches to retro accessories to bath toys to jewellery to designer clocks to lava lamps to…. Well, the skies the limit.

Style is literally bursting out of the shop, run by Frome locals Ryan & Lucy Coyle who like nothing more than to track down the most interesting and aesthetically pleasing items from around the world and bring them back to the heart of the town. Others have tried to follow in the footsteps of /Ik’sentrik but you should accept no imitations. Why follow when you can play with the leader.

The shop is full of lovely goodies and unlike some anime/manga shops it is very girlie friendly with things like books, plush toys and purses.
You can visit /Ik'sentrik online at /www.iksentrik.co.uk or offline on Stony Street, Frome, Somerset, BA11 1BU.

New website design in progress

We are currently in the throes of redesigning Ji Ji Kiki.

Without me quite knowing how, the number of products I have has grown loads since the site started in September, so we are looking at ways of making the site easier to navigate and use.
It won't be a million miles from what it is currently (we will still have my beloved polka dots and the same colour scheme) but it will just be more user friendly.

There will also be lots of lovely new items as well, including some gorgeous handmade fascinators and fantastic retro and vintage style homewares.

If you have any suggestions of things you would like to see sold on Ji Ji Kiki let me know by dropping me an email at emma@jijikiki.com

Make sure you keep up to date with everything happening at Ji Ji Kiki by signing up to our mailing list
